The Italian Association for Systems Medicine and Healthcare (ASSIMSS) organised, under the auspices of the Italian Agency for Drugs (Agenzia Italiana del Farmaco – AIFA), the Italian Ministry of Health and the National Institute of Health (Istituto Superiore di Sanità – ISS), the 1st SYSTEMS MEDICINE & HEALTHCARE FORUM entitled “MANAGING COMPLEXITY” on February 3rd-4th 2017 in Rome, Italy.

The meeting was aimed at finding viable and innovative systemic answers to the crucial problems of medicine and healthcare at different levels of observation that are caused by complexity and by the inherent lack of instruments to approach it.

During the meeting over 100 distinguished speakers and world-class opinion leaders from more than 40 disciplines interacted in 4 plenary sessions and 10 parallel laboratories to identify new avenues in research, clinical practices and healthcare management. Among them Charles Auffray President of the European Association for Systems Medicine (EASYM), Mauro Ceruti Professor of Philosophy in Milan, Roberta Chersevani President of the Italian Council of Medical Doctors, Silvio Garattini Director of the Instituto of Pharmacological Research “Mario Negri” in Milan, Gianfranco Gensini, President of the Italian society of Simulation in Medicine (SIMMED).

Thirty-seven posters presenting contemporary experiences from all over Italy were also put on display.

The meeting was a success with approximately 300 attendants from different disciplines in the two days and a wide interest of the Italian information system both at the regional and national level.
