The Institute of Experimental Medicine is located in the Academy of Sciences Campus on the south-east part of Prague together with several other biomedically oriented institutes.

1. General information

The Institute of Experimental Medicine, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, is the leading institution in the Czech Republic for biomedical research, oriented on cell biology and pathology, neurobiology, neurophysiology, neuropathology, developmental toxicology and teratology, molecular epidemiology, molecular pharmacology, immunopharmacology, cancer research, molecular embryology, stem cells and nervous tissue regeneration. The Institute is an internationally recognized center in these fields, and as such it was selected as an EU Center of Excellence (MEDIPRA).

2. Currency & Banking

Czech crown (CZK, Kč) is the official currency of the Czech Republic. Exchange of foreign currency is available at Prague international Airport and at most hotels, banks and exchange offices. International credit cards are accepted for payments in hotels, restaurants and shops. Payment in cash in EUR is also available in some restaurants and shops, please ask for details on-site.

Currently the exchange rate of 1 EUR ranged between 27-28 CZK.

3. Travel directions from Prague airport to the Institute of Experimental Medicine AS CR
a) Public transport by bus – cheapest, relatively fast:

Buy a ticket for 32 Czech crowns from automatic vending machines located at the bus stop just outside of the arrival hall, at the Prague public transportation booth in the arrival hall or in some tobacco shops and newstands in the airport, or for 40 Czech crowns (exact change only) directly from the bus driver.

Take bus No. 119 to the last stop/terminal to the Dejvicka metro station (journey duration 25 min). Take the metro (line A) from Dejvicka station to Muzeum station (5th stop). Here change to line C in the direction Haje (event. Kacerov) and exit the station Kacerov (6th stop, journey duration 25 min). Enter preferably in the front part of the train because you have to exit the Kacerov station in the same direction as the train was traveling. Take the bus no. 114 (direction to Ustavy akademie ved) and go to the terminal station (10 minutes).

b) Taxi AAA – yellow cars, recommended:

Price from the airport to the hotel Dejvická metro station approx. 400 CZK, to the Institute approx. 800-900 CZK.

4. Travel directions from Prague railway station (Praha hlavni nadrazi) to the IEM

Take the metro (line C) in the direction to Haje (event. Kacerov) and exit the station Kacerov (7th stop). Enter preferably in the front part of the train because you have to exit the Kacerov station in the same direction as the train was traveling. Take the bus no. 114 (direction to Ustavy akademie ved) and go to the terminal station (10 minutes).

6. Accommodation

In addition to numerous hotels in the city the accommodation can be reserved in the Accommodation facility in the Academy of Sciences Campus in ensuite rooms or studios for a reasonable price (approx. 8-11 EUR / day, 120 – 150 EUR / month).
